This topic was chosen as the basis for our Unit Development as recycling has become an integral part of everyday life. According to Reuse, Recycle, Reduce (n.d) “Australians are the second highest producers of waste, per person, in the world with each of us sending almost 690kgs of waste to landfill each year.” As a result of this ,more and more focus has been placed on creating and sustaining environmentally sound projects that allow individuals to contribute to their community . For us, it was important to choose a topic in which the children could actively participate in and continue implementing once the unit has been completed. Although our focus has been placed at Level 1, we are confident that these lessons can also benefit the school as a whole, as well as the broader community.
